HydraClam® Water Quality Monitor

Continuous water quality monitoring via hydrants

The HydraClam® Water Quality Monitor is a purpose-built system for the online monitoring of water quality in the distribution system. It measures four key water quality parameters: turbidity (from 0.1 to 10 NTU), pressure (0 to 145 PSI), conductivity (0 to 2500 µS) and temperature (32 to 86°F). The unit is used for targeted water monitoring within identified problem areas or as a fixed-place monitor.

Made of lightweight corrosion-resistant aluminum, the purpose-built HydraClam device is easy to install. The unit can be fitted underground to certain European hydrants. Alternatively, a mounting adapter can be used to truncate the main for hydrants in other countries. This low profile installation is less susceptible to tampering and provides increased security. For additional water supply safeguards, an internal non-return valve allows water to only flow out of the unit and not in. The fire department can easily remove and replace the device from fitted hydrants.

To ensure that a “fresh” water sample is analyzed, the onboard controller purges the system of water into the hydrant chamber before taking measurements. The data is then stored on the internal data logger from which it is downloaded to a handheld PDA. Up to 8,760 time and date recordings can be stored within a non-volatile Flash memory for all four measurement criteria. The battery-operated unit is readily transportable and requires no specialist skills to install or operate.

The Hydraclam® water quality monitor is also available with remote communications. The unit fits directly onto standard water hydrants with an adjustable aerial that is fitted just below the chamber lid. Data is recorded internally and is transmitted via GPRS / GSM technology to a central data base which can be accessed via a secure web based interface from any computer connected to the internet. The frequency of the update is typically 4 times per day. Data can also be accessed by direct connection to a Palm® PDA or a PC. In addition to viewing the data online, it is possible to export the data directly to a PC in MS Excel format. The data can then be stored locally and distributed to additional personnel.

Potable Water and Wastewater Residual Measurement

DEOX 2000 Analyzer

The Wallace & Tiernan® Deox 2000 Dechlorination Analyser is the most effective on-line instrument for accurate measurement of both SO2 and total Chlorine residuals in waste-water plant effluent. With its "center zero" residual analysis capability, con-trol to an SO2 setpoint is achievable and ensures complete dechlorination at a level to support compliance with dis-charge permits. Costly SO2 overdosing is eliminated. The Deox/2000 uses a unique process to measure sulfite residuals. It is based on the principle of biasing the sample with an iodine source which is unaffect-ed by sample quality. With a stable "iodine bias", SO2 or Cl2 residuals are automatically determined from the measured amount of iodine reacted with the sample

Potable Water Residual Measurement

Depolox® 4 Residual Cell
The DEPOLOX ®4 measuring cell consists of a plexiglass body mounted on a housing accommodating a built-in flow control valve. The transparent plexiglass body means that the flow of sample water and correct measurement conditions can be visually checked at any time, this includes the rotation of grit in order to clean the electrodes and the quality of the electrolyte (KCI).
The actual CI2 measurement is performed using a 3-electrode configuration mounted in the lower part of the plexiglass body. The 3-electrode potentiostatic measurement principle is used. Optionally, a Pt100 sensor for temperature compensation can be fitted alongside the CI2 electrodes in the cell. Combined measuring and reference electrodes can be fitted in the drilled holes in the cover of the DEPOLOX® 4 to measure the pH value and redox potential.

CCU Chemical Changeover Controller
Automatic changeover of chemical supplies, from a duty to a standby supply, is a necessity in many installations which are not under constant supervision and is strongly recommended for all applications where temporary interruption of chemical supply might lead to unwanted complications. The CCU will provide this automatic changeover to ensure continuous chemical supply. The supply of chemical is controlled by a 3-port motorised valve, or by a pair of 2-port motorised valves. A pressure switch, or gauge is used to initiate changeover when the pressure falls to a preset level.

ChemSept Controller - Septicity Control Systems
Today's concerns with the prevention and treatment of septicity are centred around optimising treatment and reducing chemical costs. For this reason Wallace & Tiernan have designed the ChemSept controller. ChemSept is designed to work in conjunction with a variety of chemicals and is supplied as a stand-alone controller or as part of a complete chemical dosing system.
The choice of chemical will depend upon the design of the sewage network and the operational conditions. Chemical injection may take place at the beginning or the end of the network. The chemical selected may be used to treat the septicity once it has been formed or part of the preventative measures.
